The procedure, used by Gentile, Roden and Lein (Journal of Applied Behavioral Analysis, 1972, 5) for intensive studies of single subjects, is found inappropriate because the basic 1 assumptions of an analysis of variance model are typically violated when continuous data on a single subject is gathered over time. Two other proposed analyses of variance models for single subjects are also considered and found unsuitable. Time series analysis, which takes serial correlation effects into account, and a median-based method are recommended as alternatives to analysis of variance designs. Comments on Nonfinite Adverbial Patterns in English Prose Fiction: A Simple Model for Analysis and Use
This study aims to present an accessible model of some frequent nonfinite adverbial types occurring in English prose fiction. As its main syntactic argument, it recognizes that these adverbials are mostly elliptical in that there are some dependent-clause markers one can assume to be implicit when supplying those elements back into the clause complex. Some comments are provided at the end on th...
متن کاملFinding the most efficient decision making unit in data envelopment Analysis
Although discriminating between all efficient decision making units (DMUs) with identical efficiency is a very important subject in data envelopment analysis (DEA), it may not be an easy task, particularly when the decision maker wants to select one and only one efficient DMU among all. There are some papers that have proposed methods for finding an efficient DMU as the most efficient one but h...

متن کاملImitation as a Positive Reinforcer for Preschoolers
This study investigated the effect of being imitated on the behavior of preschool children. Twenty-two children were employed in a " marble game," thick consisted of dropping a marble into one of three holes in a wooden box. Procedure trials occurred across four phases in an ABAB design: baseline, imitation, reversal, and imitation again. During the two treatment phases, the subject's responses...
متن کاملAn intrasubject replication strategy for evaluating occlusal splint therapy.
Okeson and others have proposed that statistical comparisons between groups of treated and untreated patients be used to evaluate the effectiveness of occlusal splint therapy. This article argues that valid between-groups comparisons cannot be made by most clinicians and that such comparisons do not satisfactorily guide the treatment of individual patients. An intrasubject replication design st...
